On this New Year's Eve, I am reflecting on wonderful memories of 2017, as well contemplating the loss of friends who I wish I could see one more time.

As 2017 slowly disappears, I remember my very special mother, friends who I have known since childhood who are no longer here, and sorrow for their families and friends.

This year has seen me become a Grandmother for the first time - an event that brought me such joy, and I have retired, albeit I am still "keeping my hand in" working small hours for some lovely people who I genuinely enjoy being around.

I have had lovely holidays, visited much loved family around the globe, and I have been fortunate to have had reasonably good health compared to some, which I am immensely grateful for.

I intend to increase my studies in Spanish, a language which I love; I will visit Spain more and enjoy the sunshine, tapas and sangria!

May I wish all of you an immensely happy 2018. Pursue your dreams, do all those things that you have always wanted to do, and love and be loved.

Remember each new day is a gift - that's why it's called the present!
